I love to manage my money, and I love to get as much earning from my money as possible. Here are few tips on how you can save.
1. First of all make sure you manage your money well and know how much is your worth. Yodlee is by far the best money manager out there. It beast quicken, mint, and many others. Not only it updates all of your bank accounts (and I mean all), it also keeps track of you airline miles, rewards points, cashback, and many others, as well as your house and stocks.
2. When I spend my hard earned money, I want to get as much from it as I can, that is why I use several different credit cards to pay for purchases.
Pentagon Credit union - gives 5% cashback for gazoline, 2% for groceries and 1.25% everywhere else. They sometimes offer 5% for airline and office purchases.
Schwab credit card - 2% cashback for all purchases. need to open free checking/broker account. Use for most purchases. International purchases do not have fee associated with it. Debit card from checking account can be used at any atm worl wide free of charge.
Amex Costco business card - 3% restaurants and 4% costco gas.
3. Now lets look into investments.
SogoTrade - very cool stock trading at $3 per trade. No limitsor minimum.
First Arkansas Trust and Fund - Kasasa cash High Yield checking - currently 4.4%(as of AUG 2009) for balances up to 50,000. This one is the best around, as yield is 2.5 time more then in best savings accounts, and limit is twice of other high yield checking accounts. To get this rate need to have 1 ACH transfer and 10 debit card transactions. Easy to do - just fill your gas at $10 increments, pay for garbage, and some other small purchases, and here you have $100 spent in 10 transactions.
Open account in credit union for your main checking - this will save you in the long run - setup all your ACH transfers through it (no ACH fees), just in case you will need it in the future.
